International Mother Language Day (IMLD) is celebrated globally on 21st February to honor and preserve all mother tongues. In Malaysia, the event is organized in collaboration with prominent multilingual and multiethnic NGOs, including Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), Jiao Zong, Dong Zong, IKRAM, LLG Cultural Development Centre, Jaringan Orang Asal Se Malaysia, and the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall. The Tamil Foundation also plays a key role as a co-organizer, supporting the event’s success. Each year, the IMLD committee aligns its activities with UNESCO’s themes, promoting awareness of the importance of mother tongues while fostering unity among people of different ethnicities.
